IRRICAN BARNWELL SOLAR PROJECT

IRRICAN, with support from the RenuWell Energy Solutions Inc, M.D. of Taber, Canadian Solar Solutions Inc. and the Orphan Well Association is developing the Barnwell Solar Project.

The Barnwell Solar Project, strategically located in Barnwell, Alberta, is the site of an abandoned well location, under the supervision of the Orphan Well Association. It is part of the RenuWell pilot project, which will demonstrate the potential of using abandoned and orphan oil and gas infrastructure for community solar development.

Another primary goal of this project is to provide electricity for irrigation operations in the surrounding area. Based on the solar resource, this project will generate enough electricity to power approximately 50 Quarter Section pivot systems with pumps and this energy will irrigate 6,500 acres for an average year. This is the energy equivalent of providing electricity for 165 Alberta households for one year.

This project is made possible with funding support from the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre and Alberta Innovates.
